How do I know if I need a mouth guard?
You may benefit from a mouth guard if you grind or clench your teeth, wake up with jaw pain or headaches, play contact sports, or want to protect dental restorations. A dental exam can confirm whether a custom appliance is recommended.
Can I use one guard for sports and sleeping?
No. Sports guards and night guards are designed for different purposes. Using the wrong type can affect comfort, protection, and bite alignment. Your dentist will recommend the correct appliance for each use.
Will it affect my speech or breathing?
A properly fitted custom mouth guard should not interfere with breathing. Speech may feel slightly different at first, but most patients adapt quickly as the appliance is designed to be slim and secure.
How often should I replace my guard?
With proper care, custom mouth guards can last several years. Replacement is recommended if the guard shows wear, cracks, or no longer fits comfortably. Children and teens may need replacements more frequently.
Is it covered by my insurance plan?
Many dental insurance plans provide coverage for custom mouth guards. We accept most plans, including CDCP with a patient co-pay, and can help review your benefits and direct bill when available.
