The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a government program that launched in late 2023 to make essential dental care more accessible for Canadians.

It covers a wide range of services, from cleanings and fillings to extractions and dentures, but it’s important to know:
You’ll still have to pay a portion out of pocket at most visits.

What Treatments Does the CDCP Cover?

The plan includes a variety of essential dental services

Checkups and cleanings

X-rays and exams

Fillings and crowns (in some cases)

Root canals

Tooth extractions

Full and partial dentures

Gum therapy and deep cleanings

Most of these services come with a co-pay, which depends on your household income. We’ll always review your portion ahead of time.

Who’s Eligible for CDCP?

You may qualify if:

You live in Canada
Your household income is under $90,000
You don’t have private dental insurance
You’ve applied and been approved through the federal program

What Will You Need to Pay?

The CDCP doesn’t work like a regular dental insurance plan. It follows a national fee guide, and how much you pay depends on your household income:

Lower income = Lower co-pay
Higher income (up to $89,999) = Higher co-pay

You’ll also pay more for procedures involving back teeth or multiple surfaces. For example, a front tooth filling may cost less than a molar filling — we’ll break it down clearly for you.

What About Invisalign®?

The CDCP doesn’t cover cosmetic or elective treatments like Invisalign®, but we know that straightening your smile can still be an important goal.

Can I use CDCP if I have private dental insurance?

No — the plan is only for people without private dental coverage.
